Herbert C. Nobles, 83, of Cherry Creek died at home unexpectedly on Thursday, June 11, 2020. He was born February 11, 1937 in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late Nelson and Doris Sweetland Nobles.
A 1955 graduate of Pine Valley Central School, he owned and operated Nobles Farm, which was established in 1963 and was named a Dairy of Distinction Farm in 1984. He was a member of the Upstate Milk Cooperative and its predecessors since 1964, serving as an Upstate Delegate for 37 years, a Director for 30 years, Treasurer for 20 years and Vice President of the Board of Directors for six years. Herb was also on the O-AT-KA Board of Directors for 25 years serving two years as Secretary, four years as Vice President and 16 years as President. He was a Farm Bureau member, served on the Conewango Watershed Commission for 48 years, the Chautauqua County Extension Ag Board for 10 years and was a member of the Pine Valley Ag Advisory committee. He was inducted into the Pine Valley Wall of Fame in 2009.
Herb was an avid basketball fan, especially of the Pine Valley Lady Panthers. He loved to spend time with his family and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s events (sports and music). He loved his boxer dogs, work horses, horse pulls, John Deere tractors and camping – especially on “the hill.”
Herbert is survived by his wife, Barbara Warm Nobles, whom he married August 2, 1958; daughters Deborah (Dale) Hooker of South Dayton, Brenda (Patricia Francis) Nobles of Homer, NY, Lynda (Wesley) Fidler of Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada and Sandra (Steve Swenko) Olson of Falconer; a son Nelson (Elena Agapova) Nobles of South Dayton; nine grandchildren: Stacy Long, Brian Hooker, Lee Hooker, Joshua Fidler, David Fidler, Steven Olson, Justin Olson, Anna Agapova-Nobles and Aiden Agapov-Nobles; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Mary Jane Mansfield, Joyce West and Patricia Frost, and a brother Roy Nobles.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at DiStasio Funeral Home, 478 Rt. 83, South Dayton on Sunday, June 14, from 2:30-6 pm. A private family funeral will be held on Monday, June 15, with Pastor Ken Pratt officiating. Pursuant to the “unpausing” New York State guidelines, 25% occupancy limitations will be observed. Face masks are required.
Burial will be in Villenova Cemetery.
